Pubs and clubs in Lower Hutt to ‘pause the pokies’ for Gambling Harm Awareness Week
Plus two screenings of "It's Not a Game"
Seven pubs and clubs in Lower Hutt agreed to ‘pause the pokie’ machines for one hour in recognition of Gambling Harm Awareness Week 2017.
The seven venues that took part were the Fitzroy Tavern, Wainuiomata Bowling Club, Te Aroha Pavilion, Naenae Bowling Club, Stokes Valley Cosmopolitan Club, Strike and Murphy’s Sports Bar at the Angus Inn.
There were also two screenings of the documentary ‘It’s Not a Game’ which looks into the lives of New Zealanders affected by harmful gambling.
Tongan Youth Song & Skit Competition
'Io ki he famili, Ikai ki he Va'inga Pa'anga!' Say yes to family, say no to gambling harm!
Mapu Maia hosted the Tongan Youth Song & Skit competition featuring spot prizes, food, and plenty of great entertainment.
Gamblefree Community Day in Christchurch
PGF hosted a fun family day in Christchurch to celebrate Gambling Harm Awareness Week, with bouncy castles, scavenger hunts, spot prizes, drinks and food, and entertainment.
Boil Up at Auckland City Mission
PGF hosted an event at the Hobson Street drop-in centre. The day included a gambling quiz with prizes and a screening of the Ka-Ching! doco with popcorn, followed by dinner. Infographic displays about gambling harm and money lost to communities will be up for the week of GHAW and beyond.
