Andree and Kristine from the PGF communications team were invited along to the event to present the communications awards, as well as present the prizes to the winners of the PGF student public service announcement competition.
This year PGF worked with two high schools, Papatoetoe High School and Waitakere College on a campaign that aimed to raise awareness of the harms of online gambling, simulated gambling and sports betting.
This competition was developed as a result of PGF receiving more and more calls and emails from concerned parents about gambling imagery used in online applications.
We realised this was a real opportunity to reach out and share our kaupapa with a new demographic and the key persons involved - high school students.
The overall winner was chosen by a panel of judges including members of our PGF communications team and management. We also had guest judges from 95Bfm and NZME.
The winning PSA was chosen based on its clear message, excellent key messaging, call-to-action, phone number and display of our logo at the end. It was creative, well edited and the music choice fit the production... not to mention the fabulous acting from the Principal and Deputy Principal at Waitakere College.
The students also had the opportunity to win a people’s choice award.
The people’s choice award was selected by sharing the videos on our Facebook page during Gambling Harm Awareness Week (5-11 September). The video that received the most number of LIKES won the award.
Also thank you to the wonderful teachers at Waitakere College and Papatoetoe High School who helped us put this project together, and for choosing to work with us.
