Counselling Information
“You talk in confidence with an experienced, qualified professional who will work with you to help you find ways of coping that are helpful and long-lasting.”
Through years of experience, we know that trusting the person you are talking to about your concerns is the most helpful aspect of counselling.
If you’ve never been to a counselling session before, we know it can nerve-racking and that is totally natural. You are welcome to bring a support person with you to your counselling sessions if that helps you.
Your first appointment is typically between 1 to 1 ½ hours long, this is so we can discuss how best to reach you goals and how to best work collaboratively with you to achieve those goals. We do this using questionnaires, which give our counsellors an idea of how you are going and where you’re at. It goes without saying that this is entirely confidential.
After the initial meeting, appointments are usually once a week or fortnightly for 50 minutes depending on your needs.
All of our clinical staff are tertiary qualified and maintain professional memberships so you know you’re in the best possible hands.

How long will it take?
We’re often asked, “how long will I need to come to counselling?”. The answer is that it varies from person to person. You’ll have access to as many counselling sessions as you need and we’re here to help all the way through.
Support Groups
Entry into gambling support group meetings is by referral from a PGF Services counsellor. Please call 0800 664 262 and ask to book an assessment session with a counsellor from your city.
We know that your journey can be made more difficult by the fact that not many other people can relate. That’s why we facilitate support group sessions with people who are on the same path. These sessions have a semi-structured group format lead by our Peer Support staff who will guide you through learning activities and can relate to your journey and you’re welcome to bring a support person.
Sessions happen all over Aotearoa, New Zealand so get in touch with us and see if joining one of our support groups is right for you and your journey.
