The escalation to Alert Level 4 requires a closure of our offices and clinics, but we are still providing free and confidential counselling services by phone, email or video call. Our counsellors are now working remotely to ensure everyone who requires it can still access support during normal business hours.
We know many of you will be feeling a mix of very intense emotions - adjusting to the eerie quiet amidst a state of National emergency, while dealing with what can often feel like an overload of information. You aren't alone in feeling this way - we are all getting used to what will be our 'new normal' for at least the next four weeks.
If you are worried about your gambling, or that of someone you know, there are a few things you can do:
- Keep an eye out for signs of gambling harm. These could include hiding bills or unpaid debts, borrowing to gamble and gambling to get out of debt, thinking about and planning to gamble and exaggerating wins or minimising losses.
- Look for healthy alternatives. Many of us will be dealing with an unprecedented amount of 'free time' while we're in lockdown. This is the perfect time to connect with family either in person with those in your home bubble, or over the phone for those living elsewhere. You can even get to know your neighbours, or go for a short walk to get some fresh air - just make sure you follow social distancing etiquette if you do.
